The Atelier: A space for disciplined deconstruction and gestural inquiry. Brisbane, Australia.
Artist Statement
Rebecca Wing Sze Lam (b. 1985, Hong Kong) is a contemporary minimalist artist whose practice is defined by a disciplined deconstruction of form. Currently based in Australia, her work explores the psychological depth of the silhouette and the poetic tension between presence and void.
Lam’s practice utilizes a refined set of formal solutions to navigate the subconscious. By applying gestural abstraction and a cool, systematic imagery, she creates works that resonate with clarity of content and a sophisticated, uncompromising attitude toward minimal art.
Her work has gained significant recognition within the high-end interior and architectural landscape, notably featured on BINGE TV’s Love It Or List It Australia and Channel 9’s The Block. These placements reflect a growing demand for her "Atelier Studies"—works that balance the raw energy of Sumi ink with the permanence of archival canvas.
Navigating the delicate tension between acceptance and refusal, Lam produces museum-grade works that question the fragility of reality. Her pieces are not merely decorative; they are atmospheric inquiries held in private collections internationally, from the Ipswich Art Gallery to elite residences in Hong Kong and Europe.
